Carnivores are piranha fish encountered in Insaniquarium! Deluxe. A carnivore eats baby guppies instead of the usual fish food. Carnivores drop Diamonds worth $200 every 6 seconds. The carnivore's natural predator is the ultravore.

Maturity

Carnivores only go through one stage of growth. They need to be fed baby guppies, as otherwise, they will starve to death. Carnivores cannot eat medium-sized or large-sized guppies.

Hazards

Alongside the natural starvation and alien attacks, carnivores also have their own unique hazards that make them a bit difficult to take care of. Carnivores will completely ignore Gumbo's light, making them vulnerable to aliens passing by. Carnivores will also be eaten by their natural predator, the ultravore.

Virtual Tank

In Virtual Tank Mode, a carnivore is always available for purchase in The Fish Emporium for 100 shells. All carnivores in the Virtual Tank drop blue conch shells worth 5 shells each. Carnivores in the virtual tank can only eat guppies from the food selector and guppies that are produced by Prego.

Colored carnivores

Colored carnivores are carnivores that come in a variety of colors that are more expensive than their regular counterparts. Colored carnivores are priced at 1000 shells each, and they produce blue conch shells. There is also a color-changing variety for 5000 shells.

Johnny V

Johnny V is a rare, pre-named carnivore. Instead of eating small guppies, it eats pizza and has color-changing properties. It can be purchased for 50,000 shells.

Ludwig

Ludwig is a rare, pre-named carnivore. Upon being fed, it will sing songs which are composed by Ludwig Beethoven. It can be purchased for 50,000 shells

Trivia

Carnivores seem to be primarily based off of oscar (Astronotus ocellatus), a type of cichlid fish native to South America. The oscar and carnivore look very similar, and both are highly predatory. Additionally, different breeds of oscar are cultivated to have a variety of color variations, like the colored carnivores in Virtual Tank Mode.
- Some of the image files in the game for the carnivore also have names such as "scl_oscar.gif"
- This was more obvious with how they looked in Insaniquarium; In Insaniquarium Deluxe, Carnivores' designs were updated with elements more resembling piranha fish - such as much pointier fins and pronounced teeth.
In Virtual Tank Mode, carnivores can have 14 possible color combinations.
